Mumbai Rains: Nair Hospital Flooded As Heavy Rains Lash City, Yellow Alert Issued For Today

Mumbai| Heavy rains lashed Mumbai overnight that led to severe waterlogging many low-lying areas across the city. Intense rainfall is predicted on Wednesday as well. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert (heavy rainfall at isolated places) for Thane, Mumbai and Raigad whereas an Orange Alert has been issued for Palghar. The IMD has warned of flooding and waterlogging in low lying areas as well.

The images from across the city showed knee-length waterlogging in some areas whereas people stuck were wading through the water holding each other’s hands. The railway tracks at Sion railway station were submerged after the heavy rains. The Central Railway thus cancelled all the trains between CSMT-Thane and CSMT-Kurla. Western Railway too cancelled the trains running between Andheri to Churchgate. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has meanwhile declared to keep all the shops, offices and establishments closed. This excludes the emergency services personnel who have been asked to report to work.
