Name-change saga reaches Southern coast; PM Modi to rename 3 islands in Andaman and Nicobar

New Delhi | After the BJP government renamed 2 cities and a railway station in Uttar Pradesh, PM Modi will be renaming 3 islands in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar during his visit on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Port Blair on December 30 will be renaming the Ross Island, Neil Island and Havelock Island. The islands of Ross Island as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose islands, Neil Island will be renamed Shaheed Dweep while Havelock will be renamed as Swaraj islands.

During his visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be hosting a 150-metre high national flag at Port Blair to mark the 75 anniversary of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose ‘s declaration of the formation of Azad Hind government in 1943.

Earlier in 2017, a BJP MP LA Ganesan put forward a demand of changing the name of Havelock island in Rajya Sabha. He alleged that its a matter of shame that a place is named after a person who fought against Indians in 1857 war of Independence.
