One can hope that this act can brighten the image of the khaki uniform which has been tarnished due to some exceptional incidents recently.
At a time when we are swamped with truckloads of negative information coupled with heartbreaking and disturbing visuals, pleasant stories are hard to come by. The tales of heroic deeds by the men in khaki during the pandemic have often been subsumed and overshadowed by unfortunate visuals portraying them in bad light.
Meet Nazim Sheikh, a 31-year-old police constable from Sarkarwada Police Station in Nashik. To meet the growing demand for oxygen in his area, he undertook a loan and purchased an oxygen machine for his area.
Coming from a humble background, his parents worked tirelessly as laborers to make sure he finished his education. Always having a penchant for social work, even while in service, Nazim left no stone unturned and pursued his interest in working for the welfare of the people. Taking a loan, he has gone ahead and purchased an oxygen machine that works on light and generates oxygen from clean water, bearing the cost all on his own. For patients, in need of oxygen, the machine will be provided free of charge. This will enable the victims to be treated at home.

Nazim, who is constantly busy with some social work, has set up the ‘Saraswati Nagar Mitra Mandal’ to bring together the residents of the area. Many social events are held in this place.
This selfless and large-hearted gesture by the police constable has served as a lifeline for hundreds of patients and one can only hope that this act can brighten the image of the khaki uniform which has been tarnished due to some exceptional incidents recently.
