Ness Wadia sentenced to jail for two years in Japan: Reports

Japan | Heir to the 283-year-old Wadia Group, Ness Wadia has been sentenced for drugs possession while on a skiing holiday to Japan.

Ness Wadia is the co-owner of IPL team Kings XI Punjab and is the eldest son of Nusli Wadia, inheritor of one of India’s wealthiest business families.

Mr Wadia spent a period in detention before his indictment on March 20 and an undisclosed period of detention before a court hearing. The Sapporo District Court handed him a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for five years,” the Financial Times claimed.

The report claimed that he was caught with 25grams of cannabis resin in the New Chitose Airport in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

The incident happened early in March.

A court official in Sapporo told the Financial Times that Wadia admitted to possession, arguing that the drug was for his personal use.

The Wadia Group, whose net worth is more than USD 4 billion, owns GoAir, Britannia Industries, Bombay Dyeing, among others.
