PM Modi Chairs Meeting With Council Of Ministers; Reviews COVID-19 Situation

The Council of Ministers noted that the current crisis is a ‘once in a century crisis’ and has thrown a big challenge for the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired a high-level review meeting with his Council of Ministers and reviewed the prevailing COVID-19 situation along with the vaccination drive. The meeting, held through video conferencing, was attended by Ministers as well Principal Secretary to PM, Cabinet Secretary. Member(Health) NITI Aayog Dr. V.K.Paul made a presentation on the Management of the pandemic during the 4 hours long meeting.

As per the statement released by the Press Information Bureau, “PM Narendra Modi said that all arms of the Government are working unitedly & rapidly to deal with the situation. He also urged the Ministers to stay in touch with people of their respective regions, help them and keep getting their feedback. He stressed upon the need to ensure that issues at the local level are promptly identified and addressed.”

The Council of Ministers noted that the current crisis is a ‘once in a century crisis’ and has thrown a big challenge for the world.

It also reviewed all the efforts made in the last 14 months by the Central and State Governments.

“The efforts by the Central Government in coordination with the states towards building up infrastructure in the form of ramping up hospital beds, PSA oxygen facilities, etc, resolving issues in production, storage & transport of Oxygen, tackling matters relating to the availability of essential medicines were briefed. The measures being taken to further ramp up their supply and availability were also pointed out. The support measures to the vulnerable population in the form of provision of food-grains and financial support to Jan Dhan account holders were also pointed out” said the statement

Lastly, the Council emphasised following Covid appropriate behaviour which includes wearing a mask, washing hands and maintaining social distancing.

The meeting comes at a time when India and it’s healthcare system is overstretched by a fair margin and is reporting high cases. The country recorded 3,86,452 cases and 3498 fatalities in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry Data.
