Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday got emotional during a meeting with healthcare and other frontline workers from his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi. He paid a tribute to those who lost their lives in the pandemic and visibly choking up, said, “This virus has … snatched many of loved ones from us. I pay my humble tribute to them and I express my condolences to the families who lost people,”

PM Modi during the meeting also appreciated the efforts of doctors and frontline workers and thanked them for their services in battling the second wave of COVID-19.
“As a servant of Kashi, I thank everyone in Varanasi, especially the doctors, nurses, technicians, ward boys, and ambulance drivers who have done commendable work,” said Modi. “In the second wave of corona, we are fighting on multiple fronts at the same time. The rate of infection is also much more and patients are in hospital for a longer time,” he added.

After peaking in early May, Covid cases have been declining in the past two weeks but experts have warned against a third wave that may be tougher on children.
“This is not the time to be complacent. We have a long fight ahead,” the Prime Minister said, stressing the need to protect children
