Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes history by being the first PM to visit a Nordic nation for a bilateral discussion in 30 years.
PM Modi arrived in Stockholm yesterday in order to strengthen the bilateral cooperation amongst the various sectors. He paid a visit to Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf for the sole purpose of exchanging views on the same.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven personally received the PM from the airport after which they travelled in the same car towards the hotel. It is believed that several bilateral meetings will be held with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven and leaders of four other Nordic nations.
“We are looking at 10 to 12 deliverables and a joint statement,” said K Nagaraj Naidu, Joint Secretary (Europe West) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
The discussion will be dominated by topics such as smart cities, renewables, trade, growth, global security, investment and climate change. In short close cooperation in the critical sectors of infrastructure, oil & gas and Make in India is part of the agenda.
India and Sweden will co-host the first-ever India-Nordic Summit in Stockholm which will be attended by the Prime Ministers of the other four Nordic countries — Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway. PM Modi even plans to meet a bit of the Indian community in Sweden.
The forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UK will focus on enhancing India-UK tech partnership. He will attend the CHOGM in London from April 19 to 20.
