Police arrested one terrorist involved in Amritsar blast: CM Amarinder Singh

Amarinder Singh

Chandigarh | Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday announced that the Punjab police has arrested one out of two terrorists involved in the grenade blast in Amritsar’s Nirankari Ashram.

Revealing their identity as Bikramjit Singh and Avtar Singh in front of reporters Singh said, “I’m happy to announce that police nabbed one of the two persons involved. 26-year-old Bikramjit Singh has been arrested. The other man will also be arrested soon. His name is Avtar Singh.”

Denying any kind of communal angle in the attack, Singh called it a pure case of terrorism.”.We had info in the past about other organisations being targeted but we took precautionary measures & prevented that,” he added.

Captain Amarinder Singh further claimed that the grenade used in the attack was made under license by Pakistan ordinance factory. He said, “This is the type of grenade which has been taken from other modules. This is the one being used against forces in Kashmir & this is the one that burst.”

Six people were killed and several others injured in a grenade attack on a religious congregation of ‘Nirankaris’ which was being held at Adhiwala village in Amritsar on Sunday.
