Police say Haryana tourist is missing in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir

Recently, a tourist from Haryana disappeared from Anantnag district in south Kashmir on Thursday evening, PTI reported, quoting the police.

Rahul Basan, a resident of Sonipat district, was in Jammu and Kashmir with 14 others to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine and other places, police said.

The members of the group told the police that when the entire group was sitting in prayer inside the Mattan temple in Anantnag, Basan had stepped out. He was reported missing after that. The police have registered a complaint.

Basan’s disappearance happened a few days after a tourist from Chennai died in stone pelting near Srinagar. R Thirumani, 22, and his parents were on their way to a resort in Gulmarg when they were caught in stone pelting and protests in Narbal, just outside Srinagar. Thirumani died after suffering a head injury. His mother and another relative were also injured in the attack.

“My head hangs in shame,” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was quoted as saying after meeting Thirumani’s family. “It is very sad and heartbreaking.”

Basan hasn’t been found yet and there are no calls for ransom received by the family.
