Prime Minister Narendra Modi To Address Rajya Sabha Shortly, Likely To Speak On Farm Laws

The government and opposition parties had agreed to set a time of 15 hours to discuss the vote of thanks on President’s Address in Rajya Sabha.

 

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address to the Rajya Sabha on Monday. During this address, he may also speak on the Uttarakhand tragedy and the ongoing deadlock on new agricultural laws. On the other hand, Congress on Sunday issued a whip to all MPs to be present in the House. On Friday, 50 speakers of 25 parties took part in the Rajya Sabha on the vote of thanks to the President’s address. This has been one of the longest debates involving so many members.

BJP’s 18, Congress’s 7 and 25 MPs from other parties participated in the debate. Approximately 15 hours were set for these. The government and opposition parties had agreed to set a time of 15 hours to discuss the vote of thanks. Initially the opposition parties wanted a separate debate on the new agricultural laws, but later they agreed to include it in the debate on the motion of thanks.

The proceedings of the budget session so far have been chaotic. The opposition is constantly cornering the government on the issue of new agricultural laws. A situation even came up during the uproar when Vice President and Chairman Venkaiah Naidu had to ask the opposition not to set a wrong example. Some members including AAP MP Sanjay Singh were suspended from the house.

Productivity of budget session was 82%

According to the government, the productivity of the budget session stood at 82.10%. The total time of the meeting was 20 hours 34 minutes.
