Pulwama attack: Cabinet Committee on Security’s meeting underway in Delhi

New Delhi | A meeting of the cabinet committee on security is currently underway at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg regarding the terrorist attack on the CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj were present at the meeting. The meeting is expected to take a call on the next course of action and India’s possible diplomatic or military actions in response to the terror attack.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh has been cancelled. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force C-17 will be departed to Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar from Hindon to get the mortal remains of CRPF personnel killed

At least 44 CRPF personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday when a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist identified as Adil Ahmed rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the bus they were travelling in. More than 2,500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel, many of them returning from leave to rejoin duty in the Valley, were travelling in the convoy of 78 vehicles when they were ambushed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Latoomode in Awantipora.

This was the first suicide car bomb strike in Kashmir since the 2001 attack on the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that left 41 persons, including three suicide attackers, dead.
