Pragya Thakur, who has been out of focus for a while allegedly due to her health issues, targeted Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi questioning their patriotism on Sunday.
Bhopal| BJP MP Pragya Thakur has once again landed herself in a controversy after she said that a person born to a foreigner cannot be a patriot. The member of parliament from Bhopal said this in her latest pronouncement targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi without naming him.
Pragya Thakur, who has been out of focus for a while allegedly due to her health issues, targeted Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi questioning their patriotism on Sunday.
The self-claimed “Sadhvi”, attacking the Gandhis, said, “Chanakya had said only a son of the soil can protect the country. A person born to a foreign woman cannot be a patriot.”
“If you have citizenship of two countries, how can you have any patriotic feelings,” Thakur further questioned.
Congress party is devoid of morals, ethics, and patriotism, the BJP MP stressed.
Hitting out at Congress for questioning the government over national security after the clash in Galwan valley between Indian and Chinese troops, Thakur said, “Congress should look within. They don’t know how to speak. The party is devoid of ethics, morale, and patriotism.”
Sonia Gandhi’s origin and her Italy-connection has always been the BJP’s polemic against the Congress party. The top brass of BJP leaders has often raised the issue in last two decades. Pragya Thakur is the latest to raise it.
JP Dhanopia, a Congress spokesperson in Madhya Pradesh, responded to Thakur’s remark by saying, “Pragya has brought disgrace to the post of MP. She was also involved in a case of terrorism. Now she seems to have lost her mental cool. BJP should get her treated.”
Many BJP leaders have tagged Congress as “anti-national” since Rahul Gandhi hit out at Narendra Modi with his “Surrender Modi” jibe on India’s silence over Chinese incursions in Eastern Ladakh.
