Railways Cancel Tender For 44 Vande Bharat Trains As Chinese Partnership Companies Appear In Bidding Process

Six companies had submitted tenders for the supply of electrical equipment and other goods for 44 Vande Bharat Semi high-speed trains with 16 compartments.

 

New Delhi | The Modi govt is going tough on Chinese companies in India after the border dispute in the Galvan Valley of Ladakh. Earlier, it had banned some Chinese apps including popular short video app TikTok. Now Indian Railways has re-issued the tender for making 44 semi- high-speed Vande Bharat trains. The decision was taken by the Railways because of the bidding on behalf of a joint venture of a Chinese company with Indian companies to manufacture these trains. The Railways informed about the cancellation of the tender late Friday night through a tweet.

 

According to the railway, a new tender will be issued in a week for the construction of these trains. Make in India will be given priority in this new tender. However, the Railways have not given an official reason for the cancellation of the current tender. The tender for the construction of these trains was opened last month. The railway coach factory of Chennai on July 10 issued a tender for the construction of 44 high-speed Vande Bharat trains.

Out 6 Companies Participated In Bidding, 1 was Chinese

According to reports, 6 companies had submitted tenders for the supply of electrical equipment and other goods for 44 Vande Bharat Semi high-speed trains with 16 compartments. The Chinese joint venture CRRC-Pioneer (India) Private Limited was the only foreign company, but the tender was cancelled. The joint venture was formed in 2015 by China-based company CRRC Yongji Electric Company Limited and Pioneer Electric (India) Private Limited of Gurgaon.

 

The entire project is worth 1500 crores

According to sources, the Railways believes that this tender should be given to an Indian company. When the Chinese company appeared at the forefront of the tender race, the Railways cancelled the tender. The cost of this project is about 1500 crores. According to the sources, after the issuance of this tender, some changes have also been made in the rules of public procurement. The new tender will also include these rules.

First Vande Bharat train ran between Delhi-Varanasi

 

The semi-high-speed Vande Bharat train operates on two routes in the country. In February 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country’s first Vande Bharat train on the New Delhi-Varanasi route. After this, the second Vande Bharat train was run for New Delhi and Katra. The train was flagged off by Home Minister Amit Shah on 3 October 2019.

 

India has banned 106 apps of Chinese companies

After the border dispute in the Galvan Valley of Ladakh, the Indian government had banned 59 apps of Chinese companies. This included popular apps such as TikTok, WeChat, Alibaba Group’s UC Browser and UC News. After this, the government had also banned 47 apps in July last month. It had clones of most previously banned apps. Thus, so far the Indian government has banned 106 apps from China.
