Rishi Kapoor Cremated At Chandanwadi Crematorium In South Mumbai

Though the Delhi police had granted permission to his Daughter Riddhima Sahni to travel to Mumbai amid nation-wide lockdown, she could not make it for the funeral.

Mumbai| The last rites of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who passed away on Thursday morning, were held at Chandanwadi Crematorium in South Mumbai. Rishi Kapoor passed took his last breath at 8.45 am today after battling leukemia. He was admitted to H N Reliance hospital here.

24 people including his family members and friends were present at his funeral. His last rites were performed in an electronic machine. His wife Nitu, son Ranbir and actors Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhat, and Abhishek Bachchan were present for his last rites.

“The last rites will be held at Chandanwadi crematorium today,” Randhir Kapoor had told news agency PTI.

Though the Delhi police had granted permission to his Daughter Riddhima Sahni to travel to Mumbai amid nation-wide lockdown, she could not make it for the funeral.

“Along with Riddhima, four other people — Bharat Sahni, Samara Sahni, Akshay Sahni, and Drigalakshmi Rai — got permission to travel to Mumbai,” RP Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (SE) said.

Rishi Kapoor was the third generation actor in the reputed Kapoor family. He was taken to the hospital by his family on Wednesday.

“He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents,” his family said.

“Family, friends, food, and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him,” his family reminisced in a statement, adding, “He would like to be remembered with a smile and not tears.”

The veteran actor had returned to India in September last year after taking treatment for cancer in the US for one year.

He was hospitalized twice in the month of February.
