“Russia Has Shown It Is Aatmanirbhar”: Sanjay Raut’s Sly Dig At Centre

“There is only talk of being self-reliant in India,” Raut said, in an indirect jibe at centre, in his weekly column Rokhtokh.

By producing the first coronavirus vaccine, Russia has shown that it is aatmanirbhar (self-reliant), Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut remarked in the party’s mouthpiece Saamana.

“There is only talk of being self-reliant in India,” Raut said, in an indirect jibe at centre, in his weekly column Rokhtokh.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President on Tuesday announced that his country has developed the first vaccine against COVID-19, adding one of his daughters has already been vaccinated.

International experts have been little skeptical about the Russia’s claim, who point out that it has not gone through the rigorous process of human trials.

The Russian vaccine is not among the nine it considers in advanced stages of testing, the WHO has said.

“When there was a global movement to prove the Russian vaccine illegal, Vladimir Putin used the vaccine as a trial on his daughter and created self-confidence in his country,” Sanjay Raut said.

“Russia gave the first lesson of being aatmanirbhar to the world. We are just preaching about being aatmanirbhar,” he added.

Pointing that Ram temple trust head Mahant Nritya Gopal Das has tested positive for coronavirus, the Shiv Sena leader asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shook hands with Das during the temple’s ground-breaking function in Ayodhya on August 5, will quarantine himself.
