Maharashtra Youth Congress expressed concern over the invitation of Tejasvi Surya, Member of Parliament from the BJP/RSS, to the Indian Startup Conference, which is being jointly organised by the Consul General of India in Hamburg, Germany and GloMan Consulting GmbH on Wednesday, 7 October, 2020.
The youth body said: “Maharashtra Youth Congress is conveying the indignation of the youth of the Indian diaspora at the inclusion of Tejasvi Surya on the panel because he has gained infamy in the international media for being an outspoken proponent of communal, neofascist and misogynistic views.”
The body also slammed Surya’s party BJP for such representatives. It said, “BJP has shamed India internationally by promoting such sexist and bigoted mindsets in their representatives and spokespersons such as Tejasvi Surya.”
The Congress’ youth cell also stressed that its new low altogether that “the Government of India should invite such a person” whose only claim to fame is “a derogatory and sexist tweet about foreign women and their sexuality”, which outraged the modesty of women all over the world, referring to Surya’s infamous tweet on Arab women.
Expressing solidarity with Indian diaspora in Germany, who have opposed Surya’s inclusion on panel, the youth Congress said: “His views have reflected badly on our country’s international standing and have diminished our soft power. We express solidarity with, and share the concerns of, the following organisations and collectives, representing the Indian Diaspora in Germany and the European Union, who have come together to oppose Tejasvi Surya’s invitation.”
The list mentioned names of India Solidarity Germany, Solidarity Belgium, Indians Against CAA, NRC & NPR – Finland, Indian Alliance Paris, Global Sikh Council, International Dalit Solidarity Network, Copenhagen, The Humanism Project, Foundation The London Story, Bharath Democracy Watch, Chennai Solidarity Group.
The body also slammed Surya for his views, adding, the President of the Bharatiya Yuva Manch, and his repulsive views, do not in any way represent those held by the youth of India, who support the above-mentioned core tenets held by the international community.
The youth Congress also requested the Consul General of India in Hamburg Mr. Madan L Raigar to answer the questions relating to the choice of partner in the hosting of this event, namely GloMan Consultancy GmbH.
The youth cell of Maharashtra Congress then penned down 5 questions for the Consul general of India in Hamburg, stressing that it “pledges to hold he Consulate of India in Hamburg to the Indian Foreign Services’ famed standards of transparency, political and ideological neutrality, sensitivity to host communities and the Indian diaspora; and mindfulness to avoid the mire of controversy that risks lowering the prestige of the Republic of India abroad.”
