Bengaluru: Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje slams Congress MLA Ramesh Kumar over his rape remarks inside assembly. She took aim at the grand old party, saying that the Opposition outfit should have sacked its MLA.
Congress Leader said that ‘when rape is inevitable, enjoy it’ to Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri. He was heard saying, âThereâs a sayingâŚwhen rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. Thatâs exactly the position into which you are,â inside the Assembly, to which Kageri laughed away.
The shocking part was that kumar made such statement inside the Assembly, and kageri instead of remanding and taking action against his comments, just laughed off.
Kumar made the statement after Kageri laughingly said, “I am in a situation where I have to enjoy and say ‘yes, yes’. That’s it. This is what I feel. I should give up controlling the situation and take the proceedings in a systematic manner, I should tell everyone to continue your talks.”.
Notably, Kumar once held the post of the Karnataka Assembly Speaker.
Also, to everyone’s dismay, the Karnakata lawmakers present inside the Assembly didn’t raise any objections to the shocking remarks.
In 2019, Ramesh Kumar, during his stint as the Speaker, had stoked a controversy said he felt like a ârape victimâ.
âMy situation is like that of a rape victim. The rape happened just once. If you had left it at that, it would have passed. When you complain that a rape has happened, accused is put in jail. But his lawyers ask how did it happen? When did it happen and how many times? The rape happens once but you get raped a 100 times in the court. This is my condition,” the Congress leader had said.
On this Shobha Karandlaje demands that the party should sack the MLA. When asked to comment on Speaker Kageri’s reaction to Kumar’s statement, the Union minister said that her party should take action against anyone making distasteful remarks against women.
