Siddhu’s Show Of Strength In Punjab, Parades 62 MLAs To Show Popular Support

The newly appointed Congress Chief of Punjab Navjot Singh Sidhu today visited the Golden Temple along with scores of MLAs apparently backing him.

In a long feud between him and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, the newly appointed Congress Chief of Punjab Navjot Singh Sidhu today visited the Golden Temple along with scores of MLAs apparently backing him. Earlier in the day, there was much celebration among supporters gathered at his residence. One MLA among the 62 that attended this show of strength rejected a demand from Amarinder Singh’s camp that the party chief apologise to the Chief Minister publicly.

Mr Sidhu and the MLAs, after offering prayers at the Sikhs’ holiest site, plan to visit the city’s Shri Valmiki Mandir Ram Tirath and Shri Durgiana Mandir.

A lot of excitement was seen as people gathered at the gates of the Congress leader’s residence. Some played the traditional drums as policemen managed the crowd.

The Punjab Congress chief’s team said 62 MLAs had joined him.

Pargat Singh, Congress MLA from Jalandhar Cantonment, responded on Amarinder Singh camp’s demand of public apology from Sidhu and said: “Why should Sidhu apologise. It’s not a public issue. The Chief Minister has not solved many issues. In that case, he should also apologise to public.”

At Sidhu’s residence, Madan Lal Jalalpur, the Ghanaur MLA, said: “I have faith that the 2022 Assembly polls will be won because of Mr Sidhu. The CM’s advisors are misleading him. Due to this, Punjab is going backwards.”
