SIT arrests three more in Lakhimpur case, total 13 arrested

Lakhimpur : Three more arrests, associated with Lakhimpur violence of October 3 were made by SIT on Saturday. These three were arrested after their names emerged during the interrogation of other accused in police custody, an officer said. This takes to 13 the total number of arrests made so far, including Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish, in connection with the violence.

A senior police officer identified those arrested Saturday as Mohit Trivedi of Singahi town, Ranku Rana of Barsola Kalan and Dharmendra of Chimma Tanda both under Tikonia kotwali limits. Special Prosecution Officer S P Yadav said, “All the accused were produced before the remand magistrate and they have been sent to judicial custody till November 2. We have also sought their police custody remand and our application will be heard by chief judicial magistrate on October 25.”

The nine other arrested accused include BJP ward member Sumit Jaiswal, Ankit Das, Latif alias Kale, Shekhar Bharti, Shishu Pal, Satya Prakash Tripathi alias Satyam, Nandan Singh Bisht, Ashish Pandey and Lavkush Rana. Barring Ashish Pandey and Lavkush Rana, all other seven are in police custody for interrogation.

An FIR was lodged at the Tikonia police station on October 3.

The next day, a counter-FIR was lodged at the same police station on the basis of a complaint by Sumit Jaiswal, who has now been arrested.

The SIT constituted by the state police is probing the case.

Union Minister of State Home Ajay Mishra blames UP Police for violence at Lakhimpur. Ajay Mishra states that the death of three BJP workers is unfortunate. The manner in which the incident took place in the presence of officials shows the negligence of both the police and the administration. The minister’s son is the prime accused in the case. He is in judicial custody and being interrogated.

Mishra said at a meeting in Singha Khurd village- “Farmers were allowed to occupy a road and then the road was not barricaded by the police. The guilty policemen will not be spared and the government will investigate against them”.

He further alleged that the police did not conduct proper recce of the area despite intelligence inputs; Mishra also said no barricades were put on the route which was taken by the protesters who were coming back after stating a stir.
