New Delhi| The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing in the Alok Verma case till Friday. The apex court was hearing the PIL filed by NGO Common Cause challenging the removal of CBI Director Alok Verma along with a plea filed by the CBI director himself in the same matter.

On October 26, the apex court had ordered a CVC probe to be conducted on Alok Verma. The Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had ordered Central Vigilance Commission to set up an enquiry committee to probe the charges leveled against Alok Verma by CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana. Former Chief Justice AK Patnaik was given the responsibility of supervising the probe.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted the CVC report to SC. Even reports on Acting Director was also submitted before CJI led Bench .

Interim CBI Director M Nageswar Rao also filed report on decisions taken by him since October 23 as head of agency as ordered by the Supreme Court in earlier hearing.

However, CJI Ranjan Gogoi lashed out at SG Tushar Mehta for failing to submit the report on time. He said, “Registry was opened on Sunday till 12.30 and you couldn’t file the CVC report on time. How long our Registry will go on waiting?”

The matter has now been deferred to Friday for hearing.
