Supreme Court wants fair trial in Kathua rape case

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday has raised its concern over the trail of Kathua rape case.

A bench head by Chief Justice today said that its “real concern” was to see that a fair trial was conducted in the Kathua Rape and murder case of an eight-year-old girl.” If the Supreme Court will find the slightest possibility of lack of fair trial, it will transfer the case out of Kathua”, added the Apex court.

“The trial should be fair not only for the accused but also for the victim’s family and the protection to them and their lawyers should be ensured,” said the bench comprising of Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud.

The Court also made it clear that “if the lawyers are at fault, they would be dealt in accordance with law” while considering the issue of alleged obstruction by lawyers in the administration of justice in the case.
