“Thankful To Centre, Delhi HC, SC”: CM Arvind Kejriwal After Delhi Receives 730MT O2

CM Kejriwal also asked Delhi hospitals to increase their bed capacity at the earliest, now that the oxygen supply is meeting the demand and also assured Delhiites that if the supply is continued, no lives will be lost due to lack of oxygen.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday thanked the Central government, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court after the national capital, for the first time, received 730MT of oxygen on May 5. According to the Chief Minister, Delhi needs at least 700MT of oxygen daily to make sure all critical patients are catered to.

“For the first time, Centre supplied 730 tons oxygen to Delhi yesterday. Delhi requires 700 tons. We’re thankful to Centre, Delhi HC & SC. With their efforts, we received 730 tons of oxygen” Kejriwal said in his address.

However, he also requested the Centre to keep the supply of 700MT going, on a daily basis, so that maximum lives can be saved.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart on behalf of Delhiites. I request you that Delhi should be given at least this much oxygen on a daily basis and there should not be any reduction in this quantity. The whole of Delhi will be grateful to you”

The Delhi Chief Minister had earlier highlighted the dearth of oxygen in Delhi hospitals

This comes amidst a bitter tussle between the Delhi Government and Centre in the Delhi HC and subsequently the Supreme Court where the former slapped a contempt notice on the Centre for not supplying adequate Oxygen to the city, which the SC stayed yesterday.

Chief Minister Kejriwal also asked Delhi hospitals to increase their bed capacity at the earliest, now that the oxygen supply is meeting the demand and also assured Delhiites that if the supply is continued, no lives will be lost due to lack of oxygen.

The national capital has been one of the worst-hit cities, with citizens and hospitals sending out SOS’ regularly for lack of oxygen and the deaths that’ve been taking place due to the lack of it. On May 1, 12 COVID-19 patients, including a senior doctor, died at south Delhi’s Batra Hospital after the facility ran out of medical oxygen for around 80 minutes in the afternoon. The tragic incident occurred in less than two weeks of 20 coronavirus patients dying at Jaipur Golden Hospital and 25 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, amid the oxygen crisis in the national capital.

Delhi recorded 19133 cases and 335 deaths in the last 24 hours.
