“Violation of Human Rights”: Darul Uloom Opposes UP Govt’s Draft Population Control Policy

According to the draft Population Control bill of the UP government, people with more than two children will not be allowed to contest local body elections.

Darul Uloom, a leading institution of Islamic education, has opposed the draft population control law proposed by the Uttar Pradesh government. A statement issued on behalf of Darul Uloom said that the law would affect the interests of every section of the society. Darul Uloom Vice Chancellor Abul Qasim Nomani said that this policy is against every section of the society. He questioned the policy saying the government denies people even the basic needs, who have more than two children. These are against human rights.

According to the draft prepared by the Law Commission of the UP government, people with more than two children will not be allowed to contest local body elections. Also there will be no promotion in government jobs. Apart from this, you will not be able to get the benefit of any government scheme or subsidy. On the question of appealing to the government against this law, Darul Uloom spokesperson Ashraf Usmani said, “After all, who are we to appeal to the government? But it can be said that this is not appropriate. For example, if a person has three children, then what is wrong with those children. They will be deprived of any basic needs. That’s not right.”

Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan has also responded to Darul Uloom’s opinion. Balyan said that religion should not be brought in the issue.” We are the second largest population in the world and it is growing rapidly. This is the right time for us, when some action should be taken on this,” he said.

Interestingly, even the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has also opposed the bill. The VHP says the provision should be removed from the bill, which calls for giving incentives to people who have only one child.
