13 feet high and 5 feet wide walls protect AADHAR data: Attorney General Venugopal

Venugopal also argued that so far no one has come to court saying that they were denied financial benefits in the absence of AADHAR.

Defending the AADHAR in the Supreme Court the Attorney General of India K. K. Venugopal said that the data collected by the UIDAI is kept safe behind the thick walls. The apex court was hearing a case on AADHAR.

On Wednesday, in its another historic ruling The Supreme Court made it clear that no person should. Taking the central government to the task, the Apex court judges also highlighted that government should put a mechanism in place to ensure that no denominator of society is excluded from the financial benefits provided by the Centre/State.

The five-judge constitution bench made the observation when the attorney general K.K. Venugopal was defending the AADHAR scheme saying the scheme was meant for financial inclusion and making the benefits reach the financially weaker sections of the society.

Addressing the concerns over data privacy, the attorney general stated that the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR) had constructed 13 feet high and 5 feet wide walls behind which the AADHAR data is stored securely.

He also asked the court to permit him to play a video of four minutes demonstrating the infrastructure of the safety room adding that the video will put to rest all the concerns regarding data security.

Venugopal also argued that so far no one has come to court saying that they were denied financial benefits in the absence of AADHAR.
