“Want Tension At Border To End”: Defense Minister After “Shastra Puja”

Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane and other officers and jawans accompanied defense minister during the “Shastra Puja” at the Sukna War Memorial in Darjeeling.

After performing  “Shastra Puja” – the customary worship of weapons – in Sikkim near the China border on the occasion of Dussehra, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said India wants peace along its border with China.

Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane and other officers and jawans accompanied defense minister during the “Shastra Puja” at the Sukna War Memorial in Darjeeling.

“India’s brave soldiers have sacrificed their lives (for India’s safety). We want that the Indo-China border tension should end and peace should be preserved. But unpleasant incidents keep happening. However, I am confident that our soldiers will not let anyone take even an inch of our land… History will remember the courage of Indian soldiers,” the defense minister said.

Weapons, equipment and armoured vehicles were worshipped by Rajnath Singh, while a priest chanted prayers in Sanskrit.

The “Shashtra Puja” or weapon worship comes amid the standoff with neighbouring China in eastern Ladakh. In early May, a tensed confrontation also took place in North Sikkim between Indian and Chinese soldiers.
