TV Anchor Arnab Goswami accused the association’s President Shekhar Gupta of leading the compromise of Indian journalism.
New Delhi| Founder and Editor in Chief of Republic TV Network Journalist Arnab Goswami resigned from the Editors Guild of India in a dramatic turn of events during a live TV show. Goswami was hosting a live debate show on the Palghar Lynching case in Maharashtra in which two Sadhus were killed. The lynching incident amidst nationwide lockdown evoked strong responses with opposition criticizing the Uddhav Thackeray Govt in Maharashtra.
Calling out the silence of “Liberals” on the matter, Arnab Goswami targetted veteran journalist Shekhar Gupta who is also the president of Editor’s Guild of India. Terming the guild ‘Self-serving’ organization, Goswami accused Shekhar Gupta of not speaking up on the spread of fake news during COVID 19.
‘I resign from the Editors Guild of India for its absolute compromise on editorial ethics, for being an organisation that is only operating in self-interest,’ Arnab Goswami said.
He further went on to say that he has been a member of Editor’s Guild for a long time however he is resigning from it on live television for “its absolute compromise of editorial ethics”. “…for being an organisation for operation only for personal interests. I accuse you Shekhar Gupta of leading the compromise on journalism for not speaking on incidents like this,” he added.
