Gehlot also advised his legislators to maintain solidarity and stay strong, intimating them that they may have to stay in the hotel for 21 days.
Jaipur| “The BJP conspiracy will not be allowed to succeed. I will go to Rashtrapati Bhavan if needed. If we have to picket at Rashtrapati Bhavan or even Prime Minister’s residence, we will give this,” Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told his MLAs, who raised their hands in support. He also advised his legislators to maintain solidarity and stay strong, intimating them that they may have to stay in the hotel for 21 days.
“The majority is with us,” Ashok Gehlot said, to which the MLAs raised their hands in support.
Ashok Gehlot, along with his MLAs, protested outside Governor Kalraj Mishra’s home yesterday, demanding him to call an assembly session. Gehlot also accused that the governor was “under pressure” to hinder the test of strength and that’s why he is delaying the assembly session.
However, the governor replied in his statement saying normally a 21-day notice is required for Assembly sessions to be called.
“The date on which the assembly session is to be convened is not mentioned in the cabinet note and no approval has been given by the cabinet for the same,” the governor said.
On Friday, Congress MLAs loyal to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot held a five-hour sit-in at Raj Bhavan to press for an Assembly session, in a dramatic show of strength hours after the Pilot camp secured protection for now from disqualification from the House.
The Rajasthan High Court ordered that status quo should be maintained on the disqualification notices sent out by the Speaker, delivering a small victory to Sachin Pilot and 18 other Congress MLA who wanted them quashed.
This means that the dissidents will hold on to the membership of the state Assembly till there is a court ruling in the matter that is now also before the Supreme Court. But after the high court ruling, focus quickly shifted to Raj Bhavan Congress MLAs landed there from the hotel where they are holed up.
The Congress said it ended the sit-in following as assurance from Governor Kalraj Mishra that he would abide by Article 174 of the Constitution, after getting some clarifications from the CM. The provision deals with the Governor’s role in summoning a session.
