The probe by Mumbai police is a ‘desperate measure’ because the police commissioner-led investigation in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death ‘remains under a cloud’, the statement said.
On Thursday, television anchor Arnab Goswami said he will take legal action against Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, who named Goswami’s channel Republic in a racket related to TRP (Television Rating Points) manipulation.
After Mumbai Police revealed that three channels including Republic are suspected of manipulating TRP data in order to be at the top of the list, Republic’s Arnab Goswami said he will file criminal defamation case against the commissioner of Mumbai police.
Goswami said: “Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh has made false allegations against Republic TV because we have questioned him in the Sushant Singh Rajput case investigation. Republic TV will file a criminal defamation case against Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. “
The probe by Mumbai police is a ‘desperate measure’ because the police commissioner-led investigation in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death ‘remains under a cloud’, the statement said.
“There is not a single BARC report that mentions Republic TV. The people of India know the truth. Mr Param Bir Singh’s investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput case is under a cloud and this is a desperate measure because of Republic TV’s reportage on Palghar, the Sushant Singh Rajput case or any other case. This kind of targeting only strengthens the resolve of everyone at Republic TV to push for the truth even harder.”
“Param Bir Singh stands completely exposed today since BARC has not mentioned Republic In any single complaint. He should issue an official apology and get ready to face us in court,” the statement added.
Earlier, the Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, in a press conference today, said three channels including Republic TV are being investigated for ratings or TRP manipulation. Two people have been arrested in this case. One of them is a former employee of the agency that installed the meters on households to assess ratings.
The commissioner said that officials of Republic TV will be summoned by today or tomorrow. The investigation is part of a larger analysis on the manipulation of news trends and how a “false narrative” was spread, the police said, adding that this information has been shared with the central government.
