“Bigots will face an avalanche,” wrote Dr Zafarul Islam Khan in an open letter thanking Kuwait for standing with the Indian Muslims.
New Delhi| Dr Zafarul Islam Khan, Chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission, wrote an open letter on Tuesday to thank Kuwait for standing with the India Muslims.
“Mind you, bigots, Indian Muslims have opted until now not to complain to the Arab and Muslim world about your hate campaigns and lynchings and riots. The day they are pushed to do that, bigots will face an avalanche,” wrote Dr Zafarul-Islam Khan in his letter.
For this letter, Dr Khan has received backlash from former Vice-Chairman of Maharashtra Minorities Commission, Dr.Abraham Mathai.
Dr Abrham Mathai wrote a letter to Dr Khan where he says, “In your irresponsible letter you have painted the whole nation of India as a nation of bigots.”
“By your opening line “Thank you Kuwait for standing with the Indian Muslims” you have inferred that the whole of India, including those who fight communal hatred every day and strive to protect the Constitution, are bigots,” wrote Dr Maithai.
“Although I agree that the Hindutva brigade has been targeting the minorities I take strong objection that you have also ridiculed and accused the Indian secular society as a nation of bigots. It is unbecoming of a person holding a Constitutional office to criticize a nation using a Government letterhead and that to express one’s own personal opinion which is biased and slanted,” said Dr Mathai to Dr Khan.
“While you raise a big alarm about the bigots devouring the Muslim community and inviting external support, you should look within yourself and flush out equally toxic persons like the fugitive Zakir Naik upon whom you have lavished praises..”

“You elevate Zakir Naik as a respected household name in the Muslim world, yet he openly encourages terrorism. You have glamorized a Jihadi fugitive like Zakir Naik wanted for investigations for terrorist attacks even in a predominantly Muslim country like Bangladesh and also our neighbour Sri Lanka after the arrested accused in both the bombings have confessed to being influenced by him. His earlier videos are still online where he justifies suicide bombings “in extreme circumstances under supervision” and also killing of a Muslim convert “if he propagates his new faith” In other words, it could be construed unless rejected by you that you are openly expressing support to a person with such ideology.”
“You also end your letter with a threat to the nation of an avalanche. The irony is that you have abused the Constitution of India while being appointed to help in its defence. Your threats sound similar to the cheap threat that a MIM MLA had given a few months ago saying that the 15% Minorities were enough to challenge 85% of the majority. Such threats coming from a Constitutional office is deplorable. Jihadi bigotry is definitely not the solution for Hindutva bigotry.”
“Lastly, asking for foreign interference whilst holding an office of the government is deplorable and is even bordering on coming dangerously close to treason. For your information leaders of Gulf countries have time and time again acknowledged the contribution of the Indian diaspora in the development of their nations in last six decades and they need us as much as we need them. It is time that you realise that you serve India and her interests and not your own myopic and parochial agenda.,” Dr Abraham Mathai concluded.
