The region of Ladakh attained the status of Union territory in 2019 after the abrogation of article
370. The development of this status was seen as a landmark and a historic moment by the people
of Ladakh.

The loudest voices of affirmation for this step were being heard from the region of Ladakh. MP from Ladakh Tsering Namgyal in his famous speech delivered on the eve of the abrogation of article 370 highlighted the relevance of this abrogation for the region of Leh, Ladakh, and Kargil.

He also pointed out that how for 71yrs these regions were being neglected and alienated. According to him recognition of Ladakh as a Union Territory will now provide the long-due status and focus towards socio-economic development.

However, the larger question remains what exactly has changed for Ladakh? The other question is also that how has Ladkh faired on socio-economic development since the abrogation of article 370?
Unfortunately, answers for both questions will come in negative if we indulge in perspectives
from people of Leh and Ladakh.
