Assam: A student has been arrested in Assam for posting a controversial post on a social media platform, in which he allegedly supported the terrorist group ULFA(I). ULFA is led by fugitive leader Paresh Asom aka Paresh Baruah.
The 22-Year-old student Pramod Kalita, was arrested by the Udalguri district police, for allegedly supporting the group in a Facebook post said officials on Monday.
He was arrested on Sunday from Kalaigaon and is currently in judicial custody.
In the post, Pramod allegedly wrote he was willing to lay down his life for ULFA -I and its leader Paresh Baruah.
“I always support ULFA,” he said responding to a comment demanding his arrest, he even dared the police to arrest him.However he said he was not a member of ULFA he loved the group, sources in the police said.
An FIR was filed in Kalaigaon police station and Kalita has been booked, sources added.
He has been charged under several sections of the IPC and the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), which alleges him of criminal conspiracy, or waging or attempting to wage war against and supporting a terrorist group.
This is the second arrest in such a case within two months in the state.
Earlier in May, the cops in Golaghat arrested Barshashree Buragohain, for a social media post where she said “Akou korim rashtradroh (will rebel against the nation again)”.
Buragohain is a second-year graduation student of Jorhat’s DCB college.
The 19-year-old has been in jail since then.
Last week based on her application a district court allowed her to take her exams from jail.
The Gauhati High court will hear her bail plea on July 21.
