BJP Alleges Rahul Gandhi Gave Worker Dog Biscuit, Himanta Sarma Reacts

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has intensified criticism against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after a viral video showed Gandhi offering a dog biscuit to a supporter. The video, posted by Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, captures Gandhi petting a puppy during his yatra in Jharkhand and then handing out a biscuit. Although the video doesn’t depict Gandhi giving the biscuit to a supporter, Sarma tweeted a version implying such an action, sparking controversy.

Once associated with the Congress, Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked Rahul Gandhi and said he and his family could not make him “eat the biscuit”. “I am a proud Assamese and Indian. I refused to eat and resigned from the Congress,” he said.

This latest episode exacerbates the ongoing tension between Sarma and Gandhi, stemming from the recent Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam. The BJP seized on the viral video, with Amit Malviya from the party’s IT cell and spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla using it to criticize Gandhi’s leadership and the alleged elitism within the Congress.

Malviya condemned Gandhi’s actions, insinuating the mistreatment of party workers. At the same time, Poonawalla questioned the fairness and empathy within the Congress’s leadership, highlighting what he termed as an “elitist mindset” prevalent in the Gandhi family.

The controversy surrounding the video adds fuel to the BJP’s narrative, portraying the Congress as disconnected from grassroots workers and led by an out-of-touch elite. It also reflects the personal animosity between Sarma and Gandhi, with Sarma leveraging such incidents to justify his defection from the Congress and bolster the BJP’s position in Assam.
