BJP’s Yediyurappa Gets Non-Bailable Warrant In POCSO Case

A court in Bengaluru has issued a non-bailable warrant against BJP leader BS Yediyurappa after he did not show up for questioning in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The former Chief Minister is now seeking relief from the high court, which will hear the matter tomorrow.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka police had earlier asked Mr. Yediyurappa to appear for questioning on Wednesday. However, the 81-year-old said he had to go to Delhi for political reasons and could appear on Monday.

Mr. Yediyurappa is facing charges under the POCSO Act and IPC sections related to sexual harassment. A woman has accused the senior BJP leader of sexually assaulting her 17-year-old daughter during a meeting at his residence in February.

A police case was filed on March 14, and later the investigation was handed over to the CID. The 54-year-old person who filed the complaint passed away due to lung cancer last month.

Mr. Yediyurappa has denied the accusation and stated that he will contest it legally. In his recent communication with the CID, he mentioned his willingness to assist in the investigation.

Today, Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parameshwara mentioned that Mr. Yediyurappa, a former Chief Minister, could face arrest if deemed necessary.

stated the minister, “The CID will decide on the necessity of arrest. I cannot determine that; it is up to the CID to decide,”

In April, the CID obtained Mr. Yediyurappa’s voice sample as part of their investigation. The seasoned BJP leader has approached the court to challenge the FIR.
