New Delhi: Income Tax Department is surveying British Broadcasting Service Delhi and Mumbai offices. According to Aaj Tak Sources mobile phones of the employees have been confiscated and London Headquarters have been informed about the raid. Employees have been asked to not use their phones.
As per the reports, a team of 60-70 members of the IT department is currently carrying out raids at the BBC Office.
A spokesperson for the I-T Department speaking with The Indian Express said the surveys were being carried out at multiple locations.
âSurveys, not searches, are being conducted at the BBC offices in Delhi and Mumbai,â said a senior official of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
Employees working on the afternoon shift at the BBC’s Delhi office were asked to work from home.
BBC News said that they were cooperating with the officials during the survey. The surveys triggered a war of words between the Opposition and the BJP.
âThe Income-Tax Authorities are currently at the BBC offices in New Delhi and Mumbai and we are fully cooperating,â the broadcaster said on Twitter. âWe hope to have this situation resolved as soon as possible.â
