The forces of both nations, India and Pakistan, held multiple rounds of talks in relation to the matter.
Pakistan safely returned BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw to India after Pakistan rangers detained him for three weeks. This was after he crossed the international border between India and Pakistan on 23rd April.
Around 10:30 am, they returned him back through the Attari-Wagah border.Ā This comes just a few days after India and Pakistan agreed to keep a ceasefire on May 10. The situation had escalated after Pakistan attacked India back after the latter carried out Operation Sindoor on May 7.
The forces of both nations held multiple rounds of talks in relation to the matter.Ā But, at first the talks did not see any results.
Pakistan repeatedly responded to the BSF officials by saying that āWe are waiting for directions from the higher-ups”

After the ceasefire āunderstandingā, Pakistan returned Shaw from Pakistan custody as he walked freely through the Joint Check Post in Attari, which is in Amritsar.
The officials said, āToday BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since 23 April 2025, was handed over to India at about 1030 hours through the Joint Check Post Attari, Amritsar. The handover was conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols.”
On the other hand, India, in exchange for the BSF jawan returned a Pakistani trooper back at the Attari- Wagah border. Authorities found him in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar.
Crossing of civilians or soldiers across the international border is not an unusuality. Military processes handle the matter, or they return the respective person or people after formal talks.
Reportedly a family member from the jawanās family thanked the government for bringing Shaw back and said, “We are very happy today. We thank the central government and the BSF authorities for their efforts in safely bringing him back. The past two weeks have been filled with sleepless nights and uncertainty for us. We were constantly worried about his well-being.”
“We are now eagerly waiting to speak to him and see him in person. Our prayers have finally been answered,” he added.
