After the killing of Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan over his social media post supporting ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, several other cases were highlighted by news media in which people received ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ (Beheading) threat for supporting the comments of the former saffron party leader. One such case was of Doctor Arvind Vats Akela from UP’s Ghaziabad.
Dr Akela had on September 12 claimed that he received a death threat from a US-based mobile number warning that he would be beheaded if he continued to support Hindutva outfits.
The doctor, who has been running his clinic in the city’s Lohia Nagar for two decades, had lodged a complaint with the police on September 12 saying he first received the call from the number on September 1 which he couldn’t pick up. On September 7, the caller threatened him with murder if he supports the Hindutva organisations, the doctor said in his complaint.
Dr Akela had claimed that the caller told him that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor UP CM Yogi Adityanath would be able to save him.
However, new revelations have come to fore now after police investigation.
In unprecedented turn of events, the Ghaziabad Police today released a statement saying the Doctor was seeking “cheap publicity” by making such claims.
The police said that the call received by Dr Akela was from the number of Anish Kumar, who the former had met through a friend and was treating for asthma.
“It is noteworthy that this fact came to light after thorough investigation in the said case. Anish Kumar, who was suffering from Asthma, had already been introduced to Dr. Arvind Vats Akela before the Whatsapp Call and was advised by Dr. Arvind Vas Akela for the treatment of the disease and on September 2 a call took place between them regarding the treatment of the disease and photographs were shared,” Ghaziabad Police said in its statement.
“In this case, it came to the light that the plaintiff Dr. Arvind Vats Akela has not been threatened and he, with the aim of gaining cheap popularity, presented the case on social media and to the police in exaggerated manner,” the police said.
