On Sunday, the Communist Party of India (CPI) severed ties with the opposition alliance INDIA. The party declared its intention to contest eight out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the forthcoming elections. The CPI currently lacks representation in Jharkhand’s Lower House of Parliament. According to CPI state secretary Mahendra Pathak, the decision to go solo was made during the party’s state executive committee meeting in Ranchi.
