Delhi Man Scams 700 Women Online Posing As US Model, Arrested

On Friday, a 23-year-old recruiter from Noida was arrested in the Shakarpur area of East Delhi. Tushar Singh Bisht allegedly defrauded more than 700 women. He allegedly posed as a US-based model on multiple dating and social media platforms.

According to reports, his day job as a technical recruiter provided financial stability. However, Bisht turned to cybercrime at night, engaging in manipulation and blackmail to generate income. His day job offered him security, and his nocturnal activities brought in the money.

Tushar used a virtual international mobile number procured through an app. He created multiple fake profiles on popular dating apps and social media platforms. This includes Bumble and Snapchat.

Tushar allegedly posed as a US-based freelance model visiting India. He used a fabricated persona with photos and stories stolen from an actual Brazilian model. He majorly targeted women aged 18-30 years, whom he befriended through social media.

After gaining the women’s trust, Bisht would request their phone numbers. He would ask them to send him intimate photos or videos under the pretense of friendship. During the initial stage, Tushar saved these visuals for personal amusement.

However, his activities soon escalated into a systematic extortion scheme. According to the Police, Tushar manipulated the targeted women. He used these images and videos to blackmail the victims into giving him money. If denied, he would threaten them to release their explicit content online. At times he threatened to sell it on the dark web.

According to reports and police findings, Bisht had interacted with over 500 women on Bumble. He interacted with more than 200 women on Snapchat and WhatsApp.

How did the Incident come to light?

One such incident involved a second-year Delhi University student. She was also being harassed and manipulated by Tushar. The victim connected with him on Bumble in January. She shared personal photos and videos with Bisht.

However, he later started demanding money. He even threatened to leak her content when she requested a meeting. Initially, the student complied with his demands. But the harassment escalated and she confided in her parents. Following this the victim reported him to the Cyber Police Station on December 13, 2024.

Police Findings

Upon receiving the complaint the Cyber Police Station of West Delhi launched an investigation. They promptly formed a team under the supervision of ACP Arvind Yadav. With the help of technical analysis and intelligence gathering, police traced Bisht’s activities. This led to his arrest during a raid in Shakarpur.

The police recovered a mobile phone containing incriminating data during the operation. They also found a virtual international mobile number linked to his criminal activities. Furthermore, 13 credit cards from various banks were discovered.

The police also retrieved over 60 WhatsApp chat records with women from Delhi and nearby regions. Preliminary findings revealed that apart from the complainant, at least four other women had been similarly extorted by Tushar.

Authorities recovered a mobile phone containing incriminating evidence, a virtual international number linked to his crimes, and 13 credit cards from various banks. They also found over 60 WhatsApp chat records with women from Delhi and surrounding areas.

Reports suggest that the investigation uncovered two bank accounts linked to Tushar. The first account contained entries of payments made by his victims. Meanwhile, the details of the second account are still under investigation.

Who is Tushar Singh Bisht?

Tushar is a resident of Delhi. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration (BBA). Bisht has been working as a technical recruiter at a private company in Noida.

Tushar’s father works as a driver, his mother is a homemaker. His sister is employed in Gurugram. Despite his stable earnings and job he allegedly fell into greed and lust for women, leading him into a world of cybercrime.
