Delhi witnessed continuous rainfall over the weekend. On Saturday, Delhi recorded 41.2 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours up to 8.30 am. This marks the highest single-day December rainfall in over 101 years. The highest-ever rainfall recorded for a single day in December came on December 3, 1923, when 75.7 mm of rain was recorded.

The continuous rainfall in Delhi-NCR is expected to keep the temperature low over the weekend. The IMD predicted a maximum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius in Delhi. The minimum temperature is expected to stay at 12 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a âYellowâ alert predicting “light rain and thunderstorms”. However, the temperatures are expected to hover between 12°C and 16°C.

According to IMD, the downpour is attributed to an active western disturbance. Its interaction with easterly winds was causing light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms. The affected areas include northwest and central India. Delhi’s satellite cities of Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad are also likely to experience rainfall.
This has caused waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the National Capital. Amid this, a road collapse in RK Puram led to a motorcycle and car falling into the sinkhole.

Meanwhile, the rain has brought relief from pollution. The Air Quality Index (AQI) improved to a âmoderateâ level at 179. However, some areas, like Anand Vihar and Siri Fort, recorded âpoorâ air quality.
According to reports, An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’. 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’. 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
