Hegde Writes To CM To Increase Taxi Fares By Rs 3 Per Km, Asks For Amnesty Period So All Motorists Can Pay Existing Lines By Availing Discounts

Eknath Shinde

Ex MLA Krishna Hegde Deputy leader and Spokesperson of Shiv Sena has written a letter to Hon Chief Minister Shri Eknath ji Shinde regarding the plight of the 3000 Kaali-Peeli taxi drivers operating from the International Airport terminal 2.

Hegde has written that the Kaali-Peeli taxis have been put under the regulations of the Kathua committee and the fares approved for them are not affordable.

The Taxi drivers have to wait the whole day and they hardly get two trips a day and it is difficult to make ends meet. Also, private Taxi aggregators get a better and fluctuating price depending on the time n traffic.

Hegde has asked for a rate increase of Rs 3 per km for all Kaali-Peeli Taxi drivers running prepaid Taxis from the Airports.

Also, there are several high fines imposed on Taxi and rickshaw drivers for minor offences.

Fines of Rs 1500.00 imposed for double parking offence is absurd especially when the rickshaw driver has to follow the directions of the commuter.

This is unaffordable for the Taxi or Autorickshaw driver who is anyway struggling to make ends meet, said Hegde.

Hegde also asked for a rebate or discount for all vehicles in Mumbai if the files were paid on or before time. This Amnesty period is prevalent in several countries.

The Taxis operating from the Terminal 2 International Airport have decided to go on strike on October 19 following which they will also be an all-Mumbai strike of all private taxi aggregators and Kaali- Peeli taxi operators.

Hegde had also called for a flash strike at the International Airport a few years ago when the Airport was operated by MIAL/GVK Group.

Hegide who is heading the Kamgar Seva Sangh has been highlighting the issues of the Taxi drivers and Autorickshaw drivers/owners for several years.
