Himachal Pradesh: Survey States 70% Of Girls Have No Knowledge About Periods States Survey

Green Pencil Foundation is an NGO  which is working on 4 pillars i.e Climate, Mental health, Child Education,  Menstrual Health and Hygiene.
The mission and vision of this organization is to empower every sector . This organization spreads its roots and creates a great impact everywhere. Today  Kalpana, who is a State Head of Himachal Pradesh visited Govt. Girls Sr Sec  School, Kunihar district Solan and we conducted our survey cum seminar there.
She was educated about Menstrual Health and Hygiene,  Use and Dispose of pads , Proper diet intake etc and the Girls from 5th standard to 8th standard were there. 70% of the total have no knowledge about periods and rest of the strength says it’s not good for us.
Majority of them feel uncomfortable talking about it with their family. They hide  their troubles which they face during their menstruation days. Types of menstrual blood are discussed , about which they have had zero knowledge. They were unaware of other products too which women can use besides sanitary napkins. Furthermore,  some myths or rumors about Menstrual health have also been also cleared by Kalpana. Mrs. Deepika Sharma , who is the Principal of the school highly praised us and also invited us again to conduct such sessions.

Under the initiative we Organised 200+ Menstrual Hygiene Management Workshop throughout the country, where 30000+ girls ( aged between 8 years to 45 years) impacted.
On the occasion of New Year 2023 under this initiative he adopted 300+ Major & minor slum areas in urban cities and he pledged to cover 1000+ villages in Northern India.
Recently on January 12 , 2023 Green Pencil Foundation was also awarded by the Gramalya Key Resource Centre Of Ministry Of Jal Shakti With the MHM Champion Award 2023 in 3rd MHM India Summit, New Delhi ,India which is the largest summit on Menstrual Hygiene Management. The award is given by the Padma Awardee Sai Damodaran , Reuben Gauci High Commission Of Malta, India and his spouse Olga Gauci .
The initiative “Periods Of Pride’ was actually started by Sandy Khanda who is the founder & director of Green Pencil Foundation. Sandeep Khanda known as Sandy Khanda , who is an Environmentalist , Social & Climate Activist who started working for society at an early age after quitting his career as an engineering graduate. He was born in a small village named Khanda , which is in the Jind District of Haryana. Haryana was famous for the girl child abortion & women rights in the early 1990’s days. After belonging to the rural background, Sandy experienced the social challenges & issues early in his childhood. So he struggled a lot to raise his voice and start work on the topic like periods after belonging to a pure rural background in a male dominant state where Khap Panchayat’s influence was more. We are grateful to the school authorities including faculty members who cooperated and supported us.
