“Hurting Religious Sentiments”: Assam Man Arrested For Dressing Up As Lord Shiva For Nukkad Play

Lord shiva

Someone being arrested for ‘hurting religious sentiments’ is not a new thing these days. In one such similar case, a man from Assam was arrested today. His crime? He dressed up as Lord Shiva during a street play.

While performing a skit yesterday with a female co-actor (who dressed up as Parvati), Birinchi Bora dressed up as Lord Shiva. The skit was to to protest against price rise under the Narendra Modi government. People shared the videos of the skit on social media.

Hindu groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal had hostile reaction to the skit. The groups held a protest against the skit and then went on to file a complaint accusing the actor of hurting religious sentiments and misusing religion for political purposes.

Birinchi Bora, after the complained by Hindu groups, was detained and taken to Nagaon Sadar Police Station.

The play, targeting the Modi government over price rise of commodities, had Birinchi Bora and his co-actor Parishimita dressed as Shiva and Parvati. Their bike suddenly stops at the designated spot for the play as it runs out of fuel. After this, an argument erupts between Shiva and Parvati over the issue, where ‘Shiva’ starts to attack the Modi government over rising fuel prices and other issues.

The actor then goes on to urge the public  to come out to protest against the Narendra Modi government to get rid of rising prices.

Police sources, as per NDTV, said: “Though detained initially, the man was later arrested and released on bond.”
