Backed by the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party, its allies, and several non-NDA parties, Droupadi Murmu is enjoying a clear edge in the polls. With regional parties like the BJD, YSRCP, Mayawati’s BSP, AIADMK, TDP, JD(S), Shiromani Akali Dal, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s JMM supporting her, Murmu’s vote share is expected to reach more than 60 percent. If elected, she will become the first woman from the tribal community to occupy the highest constitutional post.

On the other hand, the opposition’s choice  Yashwant Sinha has the backing of the Congress, Sharad Pawar’s NCP, Mamta Banerjee Led Trinamool Congress, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, Tejasvi Yadav’s  RJD, CPI, CPI(M), TRS, DMK, Assadudin Owasi led AIMIM, Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference, Jayant Yadav led RLD and a few other smaller parties. However, he will likely fall far short of the numbers needed to get to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
