J&K: Village Defence Guards Injured In Gunfight With Terrorists

In a gunfight with suspected terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, a Village Defence Guard (VDG) member sustained injuries in Panara village of Basantgarh. The encounter occurred during a patrol operation around 7:45 am, prompting police and VDGs to engage the assailants. Additional police and Army units have been deployed for a comprehensive search operation to apprehend the hiding terrorists.

Following the initial gunfire, the unidentified number of terrorists escaped into the dense forest area, prompting pursuit by security forces, as per police reports. Acting on late Saturday’s intelligence regarding suspicious movement, the J&K Police mobilized security measures in Basantgarh police station limits.

A police spokesperson stated that a confrontation occurred this morning between a police team and the hidden terrorists at Chochru Gala heights. One VDG member sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Special Operations Group, along with Army and CRPF units, swiftly reinforced the cordon to eliminate the terrorists.
