Maharashtra Crisis: Eknath Shinde Sacked From Party Chief Whip Position

Eknath Shinde

Things look south for the MVA alliance after a serious setback in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Polls. Shiv Sena has sacked leader Eknath Shinde from the party’s chief whip post.

Mumbai: After alleged reports of 21 MLAs and leader Eknath Shinde’s disappearance to Gujarat, Shiv Sena has sacked leader Eknath Shinde from the party’s chief whip post.

“We are Balasaheb’s staunch Shiv Sainiks … Balasaheb has taught us Hindutva .. We have never and will never cheat for power regarding Balasaheb’s thoughts and Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Saheb’s teachings”, Shinde tweeted around the same time.

Sources have further said that Ajay Chaudhary, the Shiv Sena Member of Legislative Assembly has replaced Eknath Shinde as its new Legislative Party Leader.

Shiv Sena Leader and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reportedly met with Sena MLAs today, while Congress leaders assembled at Balasaheb Thorat’s residence to assess the coalition’s present electoral condition.

Mr. Shinde reported that he was currently unhappy with the Sena leadership. Shinde and the MLAs arrived in Surat on Monday and are presently at the Le Meridian Hotel, reports added.

Amid the ongoing political developments Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut added that a conspiracy was brewing to dismantle the Uddhav Thackeray led MVA coalition out of power. He added “same pattern as in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan”. “Shiv Sena is a party of loyalists. We won’t let that happen.”

BJP Chief Chandrakant Patil from Maharashtra commented that he has ruled out any connection of his party to the on-going state of affairs. He followed with the statement that the BJP would “definitely consider” an agreement if it were to be put forward by Eknath Shinde.

No Question Of Going With BJP, Even If Things Go Downhill: NCP Chief Sharad Pawar

NCP chief Sharad Pawar said that there was no question of him going with the BJP even if the Maharashtra government falls.

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, Sharad Pawar has said there was no question of him going with the BJP even if the Maharashtra government falls. This statement comes after political turmoil began to brew over Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, and 26 other Maharashtra MLAs, camping out at a resort in Surat and going incommunicado after the results of MLC polls were declared yesterday.

In the MLC election, the opposition BJP came out on top. This is thought to be due to cross-voting by some MLAs. According to Sena leader Sanjay Raut, this was an attempt to destabilise Maharashtra’s Sena-led government.

Talking to the media, NCP chief, Sharad Pawar, said that his party was united and Eknath Shinde’s rebellion was the Sena’s internal matter. “I hope they resolve their differences soon. We are not scared,” he said.

“There is no question of going with BJP even if the Maharashtra government falls,” added Sharad Pawar.

Talking about the Eknath Shinde situation, the NCP chief said, “He never told us about his CM ambitions; I am sure Uddhav Thackeray will handle the situation.”

“There are no differences in the alliance and all have full confidence in the leadership of Thackeray,” he told reporters.

Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), claimed that this was the third attempt to destabilise Maharashtra’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. He did, however, express confidence in Chief Minister Udhhav Thackeray’s ability to manage the crisis.
