Former Bihar Chief Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, asserting his support in forming a government with the NDA in Bihar as repayment of a favour. Manjhi also said Nitish Kumar “made the right decision by joining the NDA.”
Manjhi, speaking at an event, recounted how Kumar secured 125 votes in the Bihar Assembly, with Manjhi contributing four votes to the total. He emphasized the significance of these votes in ensuring Kumar’s government’s stability, highlighting that without them, the government would have fallen short by one vote.
Manjhi acknowledged Kumar’s role in appointing him as Chief Minister in the past, stating that by supporting Kumar now, he has fulfilled his obligation. Additionally, Manjhi praised Kumar’s decision to align with the NDA, deeming it appropriate. “If we hadn’t, Nitish Ji’s government would have fallen.” “He made me the Chief Minister, so now, I can say that I have also repaid my favour,” the former Chief Minister said.

Furthermore, Manjhi appealed to the people of Bihar to support his government and pledged to work towards implementing a complete ban on liquor in the state.
Former Chief Minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi criticized Nitish Kumar, suggesting that his political alliances were based on his own volition rather than external pressure. Kumar recently assumed office as Bihar Chief Minister for the ninth time, breaking away from the “Mahagathbandhan” alliance and forming a new government with the BJP. This move marked a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape.
Manjhi’s endorsement of Kumar’s decision underscores the complexities of coalition politics in Bihar, where personal relationships and political calculations often intersect. Meanwhile, Devi’s commentary highlights the ongoing political manoeuvring and shifting alliances characteristic of the state’s political environment.
