No Opposition In Nagaland All Parties Join BJP Alliance?

BJP

While the NDPP-BJP is yet to stake a claim for government formation, they have received unconditional support from other political parties to continue their second innings.

Despite having one of the highest numbers of political parties, the new Nagaland government is heading towards an opposition-less government with almost all parties extending unconditional support to the NDPP-BJP alliance which won the polls held last month, reported NTDV.

In the state Assembly elections, for which results were declared on March 2, the pre-poll alliance partners โ€“ NDPP-BJP won 25 and 12 seats respectively, totaling 37 in the 60-member House.

Other political parties, including NCP have won 7 seats, NPP โ€“ 5, LJP (Ram Vilas), Naga Peopleโ€™s Front (NPF) & RPI (Athawale) โ€“ 2 each, JD(U) โ€“ 1 and Independents โ€“ 4. This is the first time that Nagaland is witnessing the victory of so many political parties in the state Assembly elections. LJP(RV) and RPI (Athawale) are newbies in the State politics.

While the NDPP-BJP is yet to stake a claim for government formation, they have received unconditional support from other political parties to continue their second innings.

LJP (Ram Vilas), RPI (Athawale), JD(U) have already submitted letters of support to the alliance partners, sources said.

NCP, which is the third single largest party, submitted a letter extending โ€˜unconditionalโ€™ support on Saturday to the Neiphiu Rio-led NDPP, newly elected NCP MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe told PTI on Sunday.

Similarly, NPF general secretary Achumbemo Kikon, who is also one of the newly elected MLA, said that though a final decision has not been taken, the party, which has two members, is โ€œlikely to extend support to the governmentโ€.

With all the political parties supporting the winning NDPP-BJP alliance, Nagaland will have another all-party government.

In the past, in 2015 and 2021 opposition-less governments were formed during the ongoing term of a government, but this would be the first ever Assembly which is set to be an opposition-less one even before the House has been sworn in.

Work hard to make NCP the largest party in Maharashtra: Jayant Patil to party workers

TestHostEntry

Mumbai | Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil on Thursday sent out a strong message to party men and spoke about structural reforms, stressing that those working hard would be encouraged and those found derelict would be relieved of their posts.

Patil referred to โ€˜Kaizenโ€™, a Japanese word for โ€œexcellingโ€, and asked NCP workers to pull up their socks as they faced the challenge of making the party the โ€œlargest in the stateโ€. He called for strengthening the party at the booth-level and also empowering women.

In an open letter to party workers, Patil said persons with criminal backgrounds did not have any place in the party and would never be able to be part of the organisation. Accusing the present government of ignoring the development of tribals, members of the Scheduled castes and minorities, Patil said the NCP was committed to their welfare, adding that it would give representation to functionaries from the communities in its working bodies. He referred to the Bhima-Koregaon violence and charged the government with pitting one community against the other.

The former Maharashtra minister also sought to pick holes in the decisions taken by the Devendra Fadnavis government, saying these have caused long-term damage to the state in the agricultural, industrial and social spheres. Patil also recalled that top NCP leaders had faced โ€œfalse and baselessโ€ allegations ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly polls from the then opposition parties (BJP and the Shiv Sena).

But the (now) ruling parties (BJP and the Shiv Sena) have not been able to corroborate these charges, meaning the leaders were innocent and that the allegations were levelled only to defame them, Patil added. He also lauded the NCP supremo Sharad Pawar for working towards realising a Maharashtra as dreamt by the architect of the Constitution B R Ambedkar and social reformer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.

In the letter posted on Facebook, Patil told workers to devote more time for the party than before. He added that he was ready to give everything for the party and sought support from the workers. โ€œWe will need to carry out various reforms in the party. Virtuous and hard working ones would be given responsibilities on priority,โ€ Patil said. โ€œThe performance of the workers would be evaluated at various levels. If need be, the party intends to relieve of their duties those found derelict,โ€ he added.

Patil said those working at the booth-level were at the centre of the party. He also urged them to extensively use a cellphone application the party has designed for its leaders and workers to communicate with each other.
