Pakistan PM Shehbaz: ‘Ready For Credible Probe On Pahalgam Attack’

Pakistan’s PM says “…We shall never compromise on our integrity and security”

In the early hours of Saturday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered to be part of a “credible” investigation into the terror attack in Pahalgam.

He said, “Pakistan is open to participating in any neutral, transparent investigation… Peace is our preference. We shall never compromise on our integrity and security.”

Adding to this, he said, “Nobody should remain under any kind of false pretence… our armed forces are fully capable and prepared to defend the country and its sovereignty and integrality against any misadventure, as clearly demonstrated by its measured yet resolute response to India in its restless incursion in February 2019,”

Four days following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, security forces continue their anti-terror operations throughout the Valley. Overnight, the residences of three active terrorists were destroyed in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire again by opening “unprovoked” fire at the Line of Control (LoC) early on Saturday, as reported by officials.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Friday presided over a significant meeting to deliberate on the future actions concerning the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, which has been put on hold. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Paatil, and senior officials from various ministries participated in the meeting held in New Delhi.

India’s choice to suspend the long-standing treaty follows the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, led a candlelight vigil in New Delhi to honor the victims.

As tensions rise between India and Pakistan, especially after recent firing incidents along the Line of Control (LoC), Paatil emphasized that India will ensure that not a single drop of water from the Indus river is diverted to Pakistan.

Government reports indicate that Union ministers discussed various proposals, which include the desilting of dams, diversion of river waters, and the construction of new dams.
