SC Constitution Bench To Address Kerala’s Borrowing Cap Plea

On Monday, the Supreme Court directed a five-judge Constitution bench to examine the case initiated by the Kerala government regarding the imposition of a cap on net borrowing. Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan issued the order, highlighting Kerala’s claims of the Centre’s interference in its financial autonomy. They referenced Article 293 of the Constitution concerning state borrowing, noting the lack of a definitive Supreme Court interpretation of this provision thus far.
