New Delhi: In order to ensure the survival of his party, Sharad Pawar’s party and the Congress must break their “unnatural alliance,” according to Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde, who started the political crisis in Maharashtra. The declaration was made shortly after, according to sources, the alliance members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi proposed that the rebel leader be named the Chief Minister. Shiv Sena has only suffered over the past 2.5 years, while other parties have prospered.

“The unnatural alliance must be junked in order to save the party and the Shiv Sainiks. In order to best serve Maharashtra, it is crucial to make this choice,” Mr. Shinde tweeted on Day 2 of the Maharashtra potboiler, who is currently camped out in Assam under BJP authority with other rebels.

Mr. Shinde is certain that the Sena has to take back control of the state and renew its partnership with the BJP. “Some people recommend that we choose the BJP. But how do we go about doing that? We suffered while they were among us. What justifies our joining them?”. At an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the Chief Minister reportedly informed party leaders that talks with the rebel leader were ongoing.

Uddhav Thackeray hinted that he was “ready to quit” as Chief Minister on Wednesday during an emotional speech, but he did not really do so. “To my face, tell me to resign, and I’ll step down from my position as Chief Minister. The Chief Minister’s position came to me accidentally – it’s not something I yearn,” said Mr. Thackeray.

“What should I do if my own people oppose me becoming Chief Minister, despite the support of (NCP leader Sharad) Pawar Saheb and (Congress leader) Kamal Nath? They don’t see me as theirs, so I’m not sure whether I can call them my people,” he added.

To break the party without running the risk of being disqualified under the anti-defection rule, Eknath Shinde needs seven more Sena MLAs on his side. According to Mr. Thackeray, “MLAs who have accompanied Eknath Shinde are calling me and saying they were kidnapped.”
